Violence flares in Thailand’s Southern Pattani

BANGKOK, October 12 (TNA) – Southern Thailand’s Pattani police Sunday searched for evidence at six schools which were set ablaze by arsonists before dawn. Police said five schools in Pattani’s Thung Yang Daeng district and one school in Mayo district were set on fire at about 2.30 a.m. Total damages were still unknown. In another incident, a 28-year-old villager was shot dead while he was driving a pickup car along a road in Pattani’s Nong Chik district. Police said an unidentified gunman followed the victim in a car and fired at him. The victim died later at hospital. The police believed the motive behind the shooting may be related to a personal conflict or the southern insurgency. (TNA)
