Violent attacks hit Thai south again

PATTANI, April 29 (TNA) -- Insurgents attacked a ranger army base on Kapho district of Pattani, by throwing in two grenades into camp, injuring two officers, while a public vanwas slight damaged by an arson in Nong Chik district late last night. A team of police investigated the crime scene, where a public van was set ablaze late last night in front of a house in Tuyong subdistrict, damaging the rear wheel on the left and the body of the car. The van, white in colour, belonged to Mr Theerapol Phetsalabsri, who said the van is used as a public transportation between Pattani and Hat Yai district of Songkhla province. The owner then said that when the van caught fire, he was relaxing inside his house. He said the suspects had dipped a piece of cloth with gasoline and left it under the rear wheel on the left before lighting cloth on fire. Luckily, a neighbour saw the flame under in time and had helped him put out the fire before the fire could blaze through the whole car. Further investigation is being conducted into the real motive behind the attack. Meanwhile, an unknown number of insurgents had attacked the base of the 44th Ranger Regiment Special Task Force, located within the grounds of Baan Ba Bgo Yue Bang school in Karubi subdistrict, with hand grenades, injuring two volunteer rangers.
