VP Boediono Plants Irowood Tree To Support Regreening

Palangkaraya, C Kalimantan, April 19 (Antara) - Indonesian Vice President Boediono planted an ulin or ironwood (eusideroxylon zwageri) tree in state-run Junior High School (SMPN) 12 here on Friday to support regreening program in school areas. Boediono was accompanied by among others Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono, Culture and Education Minister Muhammad Nuh and Central Kalimantan Governor Teras Narang. "An ironwood tree takes long time to grow, and needs several years to grow its branch for one centimeter. The wood also has good water resistance," Narang said. Boediono`s wife, Herawati Boediono, also planted an ironwood tree in the location. The vice president is on a visit to Central Kalimantan Province from April 19 to 20, 2013. Along with the ministers, Boediono conducted a dialogue with several students and also observed a handicraft classroom. Vice President also monitored several students who learned to make baskets from rattans. "The product has good quality. Students should keep their creativity," Boediono said. After visiting the school, he also visited a road construction project located in peatland area.
