W Sumatra Yet To Full Reap Fruits Of Independence

Padang, Aug 18 (Antara) - Indonesia gained its independence 69 years ago, but the fruits of self-governance are yet to be fully reaped by the people of West Sumatra, stated Governor Irwan Prayitno. "Some people of West Sumatra have not fully enjoyed the fruits of independence, although Indonesia has been independent for 69 years," the governor noted here on Sunday. Prayitno remarked that the people in some areas of West Sumatra province have not fully enjoyed independence in terms of social welfare, electricity, and good roads. This shortcoming actually reflected the performance of his government, but the governor claimed that he did not shy away from admitting it. "It is indeed a reality that I am not reluctant to cover it up because the shortcomings in some areas call for government attention to make improvements," Prayitno affirmed. But, he emphasized that the local government will continue to embody the mandate of independence as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution. "In accordance with the mandate of the 1045 Constitution, all people are entitled to enjoy prosperity, health, education, jobs, democracy, and good infrastructure," Prayitno stated. Therefore, the governor expressed hope that the younger and future generation will have the commitment and responsibility to work towards improving infrastructure in underdeveloped areas of the province.
