Wakatobi Allocates Rp20 Billion For Tourism Development

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi, Dec 29 (Antara) - The Wakatobi district government in Southeast Sulawesi Province will allocate Rp20 billion through its 2017 regional budget for the development and promotion of the district's tourism sector, according to an official. Wakatobi Creative Economy and Tourism Office Chief Nadar noted over the phone from the district town of Wangiwangi on Wednesday that the budget of Rp20 billion will be used to finance the construction of numerous tourism-supporting facilities and infrastructure in the district. "In addition to the supporting facilities and infrastructure, the funds will also be used to promote Wakatobi tourism both at home and abroad," Nadar remarked. Nadar added that as of December 2016, more than 20 thousand foreign and domestic tourists had visited the district, encouraging the local government to target tourist arrivals of more than 40 thousand next year. He said the local government was making every effort to boost the development of tourism facilities and infrastructure to ensure the target was met.
