Weakened storm Vamco cause rains, floods

RAYONG, September 18 (TNA) -- Days-long rain and flooding due to the dissipating storm Vamco were decreasing in many areas except Rayong province where locals must be evacuated and some villagers were isolated due to quickly rising floodwater. The flooding was critical in Rayong’s Thabma sub-district. A main street in Ban Nong Mahat village was about one metre deep in water, some people were trapped in their residences and vehicles were submerged. Victims said that the flooding started at 4am and the floodwater rose too fast for them to gather their belongings. Meanwhile, floodwater already retreated from Pattaya City and Bang Lamung district of Chon Buri province. Authorities were providing victims with assistance and remained on standby for more flooding. Floods damaged many areas and road sections in Mae Sot district of Tak province. A runoff hit Ban Mae Kasa village in Mae Kasa sub-district of Mae Sot. Ban Mae Kasa School was closed for students’ safety. In Satun province, floods struck Langu, Khuan Ka Long, Khuan Don, Tha Phae and Muang Satun districts. In Chumphon province, about 30 students were saved from their school bus that was half-submerged in rapidly rising floodwater on a road near the Lang Suan River in Lang Suan district. (TNA)
