West Jakarta Police Arrest 1,220 Drug Suspects in 11 Months

Jakarta, Dec 13 (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta anti drug police unit said it arrested 1,220 drug suspects in the first 11 months of this year. Chief of the anti narcotics unit of the West Jakarta police Adj. Sr. Comr. Gembong Yudha said the 1,220 suspects were involved in 982 cases including 77 heroin cases, 578 ecstasy cases, 191 marijuana cases and 75 other narcotics cases. Among the suspects included 4 police officers, three civil servants, 433 company workers, 192 entrepreneurs , 49 students , and 539 other members of the community. Police seized 68,800 grams of marijuana, 268 grams of heroin, 203,700 grams of ecstasy and 62,300 psychotropic pills, etc. Potential transaction places are entertainment centers, hotels, public facilities and residential areas, Gembong said. The number of cases and suspects grew sharply in the past four months, he said.
