Work of World Congress of Russian Press acquires crucial importance - Putin

MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent greetings to the 18th World Congress of Russian Press that kicked off in Paris at the Russian cultural center inaugurated on Wednesday. "Amid the current, complicated world situation, your work on spreading comprehensive, truthful information has acquired particular importance," Putin said in the message. "I heartily congratulate you on the opening of the 18th World Congress of Russian Press. For many years, your congress has been bringing together media heads from different countries. This format of communication is crucial to consolidate the Russian-speaking media space, to exchange professional experiences and to create new ideas and projects," the message says. The Russian president offered his sincere gratitude "for a vivid interest in developments in this country and also in Russia’s attitude to today’s topical issues." "We expect that printed and electronic media you represent will make a considerable contribution to creating Russia’s true-to-life image in the eyes of foreign audiences," he said. "From our part, we are set to step up cooperation with your outlets, television and radio broadcasters." Also, Putin was hopeful that the work of the congress would help to further unite compatriots, to strengthen positions of the Russian language and culture in the world and to enhance international humanitarian cooperation. The annual World Congress of Russian Press brings together over 250 representatives of Russian-speaking printed and online media, and radio and TV broadcasters from 64 countries. Read more
