Workers petition foreign embassies on labor disputes with foreign companies in Thailand

BANGKOK, March 13 (TNA) - Over 500 employees of Linfox Transport (Thailand), GM, NXP and Electrolux companies rallied in front of foreign embassies in Bangkok, including the Australian, the US and the Dutch Embassies, on Wednesday morning to demand better employment conditions from their employers in compliance with the Labor Protection Act of Thailand. Representatives of workers from Linfox Transport (Thailand), which delivers fresh food products to UK-based Tesco Lotus superstores in Thailand, complained that their employment contracts did not specify safety-oriented break time for drivers and the flaw had led to death, calling for clear work hours and better welfare. Sara Storey, a counselor at the Australian embassy, received the complaint and talked with representatives of the workers. The workers then rallied at the Embassies of the United States and the Netherlands, complaining against unfair layoffs and unfair employment conditions, including the reduction of their work days from six to four weekly, which have cut their incomes.
