World Congress on Takfiri Movement kicks off in Qom

QOM, Nov. 24 (MNA) – The International Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the Islamic Scholars’ View kicked off today in Qom. The congress which will continue until Nov. 24 in Qom, the religious capital of Iran, tries to gather Islamic scholars and clerics to discuss the controversial issues of Takfiri movements and the extremism and terror that it has caused throughout the world. The idea of establishing the organization was formed by the Qom scholars about three years ago, when they realized that the extremism in the Muslim world can lead to a critical situation in the world and the Middle East. The congress is held under supervision of Grand Shia cleric Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi and Grand Ayatollah Sobhani together with Ahlul Bayt World Assembly, World Assembly for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Management of Hawzah (Seminary School), Dar al-Ulum Institute (Wahhabi Studies) and al Mustafa International University. Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi condemned the continued inaction in the face of ISIL atrocities and said, “this terrorist group has tarnished the reputation of Islam by introducing it as a religion of violence. We must try to enlighten these deceived youth who have joined ISIL and counter its misguided principles.” He then proceeded to count the red lines of the congress and said, “these red lines include avoidance of disputable political issues on Takfirism and extremism in the Islamic view, exchange of opinions without going into any sensitive religious matters, and respecting all sacred religions.” “The so-called Islamic State is a misleading organization which is neither a State nor Islamic, and has fabricated this name to harm Islam,” he said. Hujjat al-Islam Alizadeh, the chief executive of the congress, deemed this event of the greatest significance in the Muslim world, and added, “the congress’s plan is to gather 600 Muslim scholars from 83 countries throughout the world, especially those scholars who are eminent in their own countries.” Hujjat al-Islam Alizadeh also noted that more than 1000 abstract papers and 700 full papers have been submitted to the conference. Iraqi FM Ibrahim al-Jaafari also maintained that terrorism knows no religion or nation and said, “ISIL called itself a proponent of Islam but ended up killing the Muslims. They have targeted clinics, schools and mosques of the Islamic world, and now it is our responsibility to be watchful of their every move and counter them accordingly.” “The Takfiris are barely holding up, and every soldier combating ISIL is among the most remarkable people,” he added. The holy city of Qom is hosting the conference on “Extremist and Takfiri Groups in View of Muslim Scholars” on November 23-24.
