SEREMBAN (Negeri Sembilan,Malaysia), July 4 (Bernama) -- An association representing Malays from all corners of the globe is expected to be established to forge relations, unity and cooperation among the world's Malay communities. The establishment of the association to be known as the World Malay-Polynesian Association, will be among the resolutions to be tabled and discussed at the Malay-Polysenian International Seminar to be held at Klana Resort, here, this Thursday and Friday. The seminar's organising committee chairman, Prof Dr Kamaruddin Kachar said setting up the association was important not only to encourage interaction among the Malay-Polynesian people from all over the world, but to also represent the community at the world stage. "The Malay-Polynesians who number 380 million and still practise their culture and traditions are found in 33 countries including South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, New Zealand and Malaysia. "Many have skills and expertise in various fields which should be shared with members of the community worldwide," he added in a statement on Tuesday. Kamaruddin said the seminar would also discuss about cooperation among the world's Malays in various fields, especially economy, education and tourism. -- BERNAMA
