World opposed to US policies: Iran FM

Antalya, Nov 3, IRNA - The World is mounting an effective opposition to the US policies, the Iranian foreign minister said on Saturday. The US policies and decisions have encountered with active opposition of the countries across the world, Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Saturday. He was speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on the sidelines of the 18th session of the D8 Council of Foreign Ministers. Most of the countries have expressed opposition to the US measures, in particular in case of imposition of unilateral sanctions, Zarif noted. He described the US's anti Iran sanctions as illegal and against the nuclear deal, known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Zarif said that the US's anti-Iran sanctions violate the the UN Security Council's resolutions and the International Court of Justice's ruling. The Iranian foreign minister said that the Washington's approach towards the international treaties with regards to its obligations endangers the world order seriously. He lauded a recent statement by the EU countries which underlines continuation of cooperation with Iran despite sanctions. US President Donald Trump announced in early May that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and reinstate sanctions which had been lifted under the accord. The first round of the sanctions snapped back into place in August, with the second round which will aim the energy and oil sector taking effect on November 5. This is while other signatories to the deal (i.e. Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia) have thus far criticized Washington's unilateral move and have repeatedly stressed their commitment to the deal.
