WTO ADDRESSES MONGOLIA’S TRADE POLICY

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The session of Council for Trade Policies Assessment of World Trade Organization (WTO) discussed September 24-26 the Second Report on Mongolia’s Trade policy. The WTO member-countries are obligated to have their policy reports discussed by the council every two, four and six years, depending on their share in the global trade. Mongolia is in six years category. The first report was discussed in 2005. The above session’s main purpose was to discuss the changes in the trade policies of Mongolia in presence of other member-countries and to inform about current policies and goals of the country. The Mongolian delegation to this meeting was headed by the vice-minister of economic development O.Chuluunbat. He gave speech on his country's status of trade and economic development and future trends, on Government policies, on the country’s involvement in multilateral trade dialogues. To discuss our trade and economic policies and investment environments gathered representatives of some 40 countries, including our main partners in trade and investment China, Russia, the USA, Canada, Japan, S.Korea, Australia and Turkey and also the EU. During the event, O.Chuluunbat met with director-general of WTO Roberto Azevedo, a deputy secretary-general of the UN Coneference on Trade and Development Peter Draganov, an executive director of International Trade Center Arancha Gonzalez, to inform them about Mongolia’s trade and economics and to share opinions on the bilateral cooperation. Mr Azevedo highly spoke Mongolia’s successful realization of multilateral trade system and promised a technical assistance for strengthening of the trade capacity of Mongolia. Ms Gonzalez expressed a willingness to cooperate with Mongolia in trade facilitation, promotion of small and medium enterprises and realization of new projects and programs. The UNCTAD deputy secretary P.Draganov also promised his support for Mongolia’s extended cooperation in trade and investment with the conference, complimenting Mongolia’s achievements.
