YARAT invites you to attend a lecture performance by Maria Vilkovskaya&Ruslan Getmanchuk “Vocalization”

Baku, April 4 (AzerTAc). The YARAT Contemporary Art Space invites you to attend a lecture-performance “Vocalization” by Maria Vilkovskaya and Ruslan Getmanchuk, on 13th April. Maria Vilkovskaya and Ruslan Getmanchuk, young performance artists from Almaty, work at the intersection of music, poetry and performance. Vocalization is a term meaning the physiological act of forming sound in the vocal apparatus. We invite you to participate in a talk about the process of voice acquisition and about how this process is connected with music and other art forms. In what way is the structure of society reflected in music? How did popular music arise? Can pop music be considered the universal language of the modern age, suitable for expressing burning issues? Acquiring a voice is always connected with a struggle against those who say: the right to a voice is a right to power. At the same time the voice is the most widespread musical instrument in the world. Is a society possible in which everyone makes use of this instrument? Maria Vilkovskaya is a poet, musician and performer from Almaty. She graduated from the Kurmangazy Almaty State Conservatory. She has been published in literary and arts publications. She is a participant in various artistic projects. Ruslan Getmanchuk is an artist from Almaty. He graduated in biology at the Al-Farabi Kazakh State University. A participant in various artistic projects (performances, happenings), organiser of the REPLICA-2007 festival of experimental media art.
