Yingluck visits South, after weekend car bombings

BANGKOK, April 2 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is visiting the country's southern region Monday to inspect the situation, after a spate of mid-day car bombings rocked Yala province and Hat Yai in Songkhla province last Saturday, killing over a dozen of people and injuring more than 500 others. After presiding a ceremony to inaugurate a children book fair and briefly chairing a Cabinet weekly meeting at Bangkok's Government House, Yingluck flew to Hat Yai to inspect the update situation, as well as to boost local people and authorities morale and to visit the injured at hospitals. Some 14 people were killed and more than 500 were injured in the string of car bombing attacks on March 31, two of them took place in the provincial seat of Yala and another in the basement of the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel in Hat Yai. Security measures at all airports under the Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) have been beefed up, following the weekend's car bombings in Yala and Hat Yai. Premier Yingluck is scheduled to return to Bangkok this afternoon and to then fly to Cambodia at around 5pm to attend the 20th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Phnom Penh.
