Zayed Giving Initiative launches the region's first training programme on field medicine

ABU DHABI, 13th October, 2015 (WAM) – Zayed Giving Initiative, a unique UAE model for humanitarian work at local and international levels, has launched a path-breaking programme for training medical professionals in field medicine to undertake local and international humanitarian missions as part of its medical voluntary team. Co-supervised by the National Programme for Development of Medical Professionals' Skills (Maharat) and the National Training LLC (Tadreeb), the programme will offer training to doctors and nursing staff in field medicine with the aim of building and developing their capacities and skills in specialisations of disaster medicine, trauma, resuscitation and emergency medicine in order to run Emirates world humanitarian and voluntary mobile hospitals. Dr. Adel Al Shamri, CEO of the Zayed Giving Initiative, revealed that hundreds of doctors had enrolled in the programme to gain skills to improve their performance and obtain internationally accredited certificates, particularly in emergency medicine, intensive care and surgery. He noted that the field medicine programme, the first of its kind in the region, aims to instil the culture of charitable and voluntary work and allow administrative, medical and technical staff to engage in the missions of the Emirates medical, voluntary field and mobile hospitals. Dr. Shamsa Al Owr, Executive Director of the Initiative of Doctors of Poor, said the Zayed Giving Initiative and the National Training LLC (Tadreeb), had trained more than 10,000 medical professionals from public and private institutions over the last ten years. These training programmes were conducted in partnership with the University of Georgia in the United States, American Trauma Society and European Resuscitation Council. She added that trained medical teams had treated three million children and conducted more than 7,000 surgeries in different parts of the world. ''In future, we will focus our attention on field medicine,'' she added.
