Indonesia urges UN members to implement resolutions for Palestine

Jakarta, September 24 (ANTARA) - Indonesia urged UN member countries to immediately implement various resolutions that it had created to resolve the Palestine issue.

Indonesia's call, conveyed at the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the US, on Saturday, also emphasized its consistent support for the statehood of Palestine—in accordance with various parameters that have been agreed.

"Those parameters have been agreed in the UN, so I asked UN members on how we implement the existing resolutions," Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said in an online press briefing that was broadcast on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' YouTube channel.

"There are so many resolutions that have been created, and if the implementation is in line with resolutions, the world's situation would not have been like this," she added.

The minister stressed that Indonesia continues to voice its support for Palestine in the forums of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

"I encourage OIC and its member countries to continue to support Palestine," she remarked.

The Palestine matter is one of the most highlighted issues at this year's UN General Assembly, following the plan to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

For months, the two countries have been discussing a deal to normalize diplomatic ties, brokered by the US.

Normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia is highly desired by Israel and the US, because of the OIC member country's status as the leader of the Arab world and Islamic world.

However, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia emphasized that any agreement regarding diplomatic relations with Israel must be accompanied by the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Earlier, several Arab countries have normalized diplomatic relations with Israel, namely the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Bahrain, and Morocco.

The step was criticized by Palestine because it was considered aggression and disregarded Palestinian rights, especially regarding Jerusalem and the independence of the Palestinian state in accordance with the 1967 borders.
