Kyrgyzstan to build new vaccine storage facilities

BishkekJuly 5, 2023. /Kabar/. As part of the World Bank-funded COVD-19 Emergency Response Project, eight vaccine storage facilities are planned to be built at the inter-district disease prevention and state sanitary and epidemiological surveillance centers throughout Kyrgyzstan.

At present, six vaccine storage facilities are under construction at the inter-district disease prevention and epidemiological surveillance centers in Jalal-Abad and Batken Oblasts, the disease prevention and epidemiological surveillance center in Jalal-Abad and the sanitary-epidemiological department in Osh Oblast. It is expected to start construction works in the Center for Disease Prevention and Control in Bishkek and the sanitary-epidemiological department in Jalal-Abad.

As part of the project, warehouses for storing vaccines in the sanitary-epidemiological departments of Moskovsky, Keminsky and Bazar-Korgon districts were repaired, as well as in the inter-district center for disease prevention and state sanitary and epidemiological surveillance of Talas.

In addition, 50 freezer rooms and 50 thermocontainers for vaccine storage were purchased at the expense of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan. A freezer room for the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis (a freezer room is a large specialized freezer for storing vaccines at storage temperatures (-15-25 degrees)) is also expected to be delivered as part of the project.

The goal of the project is to assist the Kyrgyz government in strengthening its capacity to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic by providing appropriate preventive measures, purchasing medicines, consumables and medical equipment, and improving conditions in health care organizations.
