‘World in danger’ slogan suggested for youth festival Russia hosts in 2017

MOSCOW, January 28. /TASS/. ‘The World is in Danger’ could be the slogan of the World Festival of Youth and Students that Russia hosts in 2017, the first deputy to the director general of Tass news agency suggested on Thursday. "The world is in danger, not only in danger of a war, but also of other things - terrorism, environmental disaster," Mikhail Gusman said. "It is a common task of the youth from all countries to fight these dangers threatening the fragile world, and it can become the idea collecting the festival under its standards," Gusman said at a round table assembling participants of youth organizations, representatives of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs and organizers of the 1985 festival in Moscow. He also urged active participation of the youth in preparations for the festival. In November 2015, a session of the WFDY General Assembly in the Cuban capital, Havana, approved Russia’s bid to host the youth festival in 2017, the Russian bid being the only one supported by the WFDY. "As of today, more than 100 countries have stated their willingness to come here in case the festival is held in Russia, sending large delegations of more than 100 people," the head of the Russian Federal Agency for Youth, Sergey Pospelov said, noting that up to 30,000 participants could be expected in Russia. The festival is held every four years starting from 1947. Moscow has hosted the event twice, in 1957 and 1985. Read more
