“Energy from past to future: Azerbaijan through the lens” photo exhibition opens at UN Geneva Office

Vienna, January 20, AZERTAC “Energy from past to future: Azerbaijan through the lens” photo exhibition has been launched at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The exhibition was organized by the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS). The exhibition featured photos and other visual material highlighting energy transition in Azerbaijan, Germany, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. In his opening remarks, UNECE Executive Secretary Christian Friis Bach hailed the efforts of European countries, including Azerbaijan, Germany, Kazakhstan and Ukraine towards ensuring transition to a green economy. Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva Vagif Sadigov highlighted the history of the energy infrastructure in Azerbaijan. He said the Azerbaijani government had been doing tremendous efforts to diversify the national economy, channeling oil revenues into transport infrastructure, high technologies, agriculture, tourism and other non-oil sectors. Sadigov said transition to a diversified energy system encompassing alternative and renewable energy infrastructure was one of the Azerbaijani government`s priorities. “To this end, Azerbaijan maintains cooperation with relevant international organizations and companies,” he added. TEAS director Lionel Zetter provided an insight into the exhibition. He said part of the photos featured at the exhibition highlight Azerbaijan`s developing energy sector.
