2030 AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROMOTED TO PUBLIC

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On October 1, a UN bus traveled across Ulaanbaatar city to promote the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its goals to the public at several places. In a route from the city center to ger areas of Songinokhairkhan district, the bus held activities in several spots to give understanding to people about the public role in development of Mongolia. Adopted by world leaders during the UN Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September 2015, 17 goals and 169 targets were announced to set free the human race from the tyranny of poverty by the year 2030 and to heal and secure our planet. “This is a big goal, so once every person contributes to this, it will come true. Not only everyone, but also the Government, civil organizations, companies and even herders have to be involved in this goal. In order to support the public role, the UN has issued a guideline of actions for individuals, which includes institutions of simple steps towards development of the country,” said Beate Trankmann, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to Mongolia. “Global big challenges can be tackled with support of people. Today we need people’s actions, choice and custom. They can bring us a change. Since we formulated our goals of actions, I want to call all people on launch these goals. In order to accomplish the goals, we have to change our lifestyle, custom, industries, consumption, investment and business principles that we still use today. This action will bring us a concrete change,” she said. The UN travelling bus is one of the campaigns to promote the public role in the 2030 Agenda. B.Batchimeg
