About 40 Pacific Fleet warships to take part in Navy Day celebrations in Vladivostok

VLADIVOSTOK, July 18. /TASS/. Over 1,500 troops and about 40 warships and support vessels of Russia’s Pacific Fleet will take part in Navy Day celebrations in Vladivostok in the Russian Far East on July 29, Fleet Spokesman Captain 2nd Rank Nikolai Voskresensky said on Wednesday. Viewers will see marines landing in the Zolotoi Rog (Golden Horn) Bay and destroying a notional enemy’s submarine, the spokesman said. "The naval parade and the naval-sports event that will be held in the Amur Bay are planned to involve about 40 combat ships, boats, submarines and support vessels, over 20 pieces of coastal defense troops’ military hardware and more than 1,500 troops of the Pacific Fleet," the spokesman said. "The festivities will begin with the theatrical, dancing and musical performance: ‘Russian Navy sailors landing in the Zolotoi Rog Bay.’ After that, the guests viewing the historical performance will see renowned people and celebrities who visited Vladivostok in various years," Voskresensky said. After the performance is over, the celebrations will move to the area of the Amur Bay where small anti-submarine warfare ships will find and destroy a notional enemy’s submarine, using anti-submarine warfare weapons. Coastal minesweepers will sweep the places of marines’ landing and blow up notionally discovered floating mines to make sure that amphibious assault ships do not hit a simulated enemy’s minefields. The Pacific Fleet’s Special Forces will show the seizure of a notional enemy’s submarine while marine infantry’s combat engineers and assault units will prepare a bridgehead for landing marines. Spectacular episodes will feature the actions of amphibious assault groups and marines’ landing from the large amphibious assault ship Peresvet onto the Pacific Fleet’s waterway station amid fire support from the Fleet’s most advanced corvette Sovershenny. The festivities will culminate in fireworks. Read more
