Army Captain Missing: Vehicle Swept Away By Flood Waters In US

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- A Malaysian army officer attending a course in Missouri in the United States (US), is feared missing when the vehicle he was in with four other college mates was swept away by flood waters. Army headquarters at Wisma Pertahanan in a statement Tuesday said the missing victim was identified as Captain Hasman Hussain. The statement said the victim was attending the 'Engineer Captains Career Course' at Fort Leonard Wood, US, from Oct 1 to April 15 next year. "On Dec 28 at 11.45 (local time) Deputy Chief of Mission in Malawakil, Washington DC, Saiful Annuar received information from a representative of the US State Department that an officer was suspected to be missing. "He (Hasman) together with four other college mates had gone on holiday on Saturday, Dec 26, in the vehicle which was reported to have been washed away by flood waters in Pulaski County, Missouri, US," the statement said. However, the statement said four bodies had been found but Hasman's was not among them. "The college and the Malaysian Embassy are tracing the whereabouts of the officer," he said. The army headquarters and Office of Defence Cooperation, US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur are trying to get the latest information on the officer, the statement added. -- BERNAMA
