Bernama India Correspondent Dies

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) India correspondent, M.Santhiran died due to complications after being warded at the Primus Chanakyapuri Hospital, New Delhi, early Sunday morning. Santhiran, 48, was admitted to the hospital last Friday after suffering from diarrhea. His eldest son, S. Ruthran, 18, when contacted by Bernama said his father died at 11.40 pm local time (Malaysia 2.10 am). "My father had diabetes since eight years ago and, because of it, suffered from several complications such as kidney problem and low blood pressure," he said. He said his remains would be laid to rest in Puchong, a major town in the Petaling District, Selangor after arrangement with the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi is made to bring back the body to Malaysia. Santhiran joined Bernama in October 2002 and served as Bernama's foreign correspondent in India since Feb 1, 2015. He is survived by his wife Malarvili Dorasamy, 47, and two sons. Meanwhile Bernama Chairman Azman Ujang expressed his condolences on behalf of Bernama to Santhiran's family. Azman said he was among Bernama's senior journalists who were very dedicated in his career. "On behalf of Bernama, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family of the late M.Santhiran and Bernama will contact the management of the Malaysian High Commission in New Delhi to bring back his remains to Malaysia," he said. Bernama Editor-in-Chief Zakaria Abdul Wahab said Santhiran was very committed in carrying out his duty as a journalist and his demise was a great loss to Bernama. "My condolences to his family, another of our 'hero' has gone unexpectedly. "I had the opportunity to meet up with Santhiran, who was full of enthusiasm to improve Bernama's news coverage before he departed for Delhi recently but he was called home and we pray his soul rests in peace," he told Bernama.
