Changes in international relations visible after pope-patriarch meeting - Russian Orthodox Church

MOSCOW, February 24. /TASS/. The changes in international relations after the February 12 meeting between Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia are already noticeable, Vladimir Legoyda, Chairman of the Synodal Information Department, told a news conference in Moscow on Wednesday. He recalled that the pope and the patriarch who signed a joint declaration in Havana had urged of all people of good will to protect persecuted Christians in the Middle East. "We hope that this appeal was heeded," Legoyda said. "Judging by some events in international relations, this hope was not in vain, and we hope that we will see the resolution of difficult situations in the future." He voiced confidence that this historic meeting "would open a new page in international relations." Legoyda noted that the pope and the patriarch had set an example to politicians on overcoming the existing differences in relations. Read more
