Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first five months of this year, 2,152 disasters and accidents occurred. Consequently, 46 people died, and 11 thousand and 999 heads of livestock and animals were lost, of which 3,454 heads of livestock died by foot-and-mouth disease. Among the natural disasters and accidents reported in the first five months of this year, 1,907 were construction fires, 94--forest fires, 83--cases of rabies to domestic animals, 15 times 3.5 magnitude earthquakes, and 11 incidents related to chemical substance usage and emergency call. The estimated damage caused by the construction fires amounted to MNT 5.2 billion, forest fires-MNT 710.8 million; porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome--MNT 480.0 million; severe storms--MNT 123.0 million and rabies--MNT 61.3 million. A total of MNT 394.4 million was spent for the disasters and accidents. 37 people died from construction fires, six people--from drowning in rivers and lakes, and one--from severe storms and collapse of mine stops in artisanal mining sites respectively. Compared with the same period of previous year, the occurrence of natural disasters and accidents decreased by 86.
