The Doctors Worldwide Turkey branch opens health center in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU (A.A) - November 9, 2011 - Turkey branch of Doctors Worldwide association opened a nutrition health center in Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday. Somali Health Minister Abdul Aziz and Turkish Ambassador in Mogadishu Cemalettin Kani Torun attended the inauguration of the center. Torun told AA that the center aimed to treat Somali children who had nutrition disorder due to serious hunger in that country. Nutrition experts from Turkey could work in this center in the future, he added. The center was opened in Lafoole region of Somalia. Having witnessed the Balkan conflicts of Bosnia and Kosovo, a group of international medics got together and established Doctors Worldwide in 2000 as a UK charity. With a head office in Stockport, Greater Manchester, the organization expanded and in 2004, Doctors Worldwide Turkey was set up to capitalize on the expertise of well trained doctors and health workers keen to support humanitarian and medical relief work.
