Experience The Life Of A Child In A Refugee Camp

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- You walk through a refugee camp in the middle of a desert, have a meal, sit in a make-shift classroom and play with children. As you live through these powerful scenes, your senses are overwhelmed by what you experience. At the UNICEF Experiential Booth, hosted by Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the public is invited to experience a virtual reality documentary that literally immerses the viewer into the environment of the film itself for free. "As displayed in the past, Malaysians have always acted upon their concern and empathy towards the plight of children in need the world over. "We hope that by experiencing Clouds Over Sidra, viewers will be inspired by the courage of the Syrian children and families who are now in camps or on the move, who have battled against the odds despite the harm they have suffered or witnessed," said head of Fundraising and Partnership UNICEF Malaysia Richard Beighton. Clouds Over Sidra is the first-ever film shot in virtual reality for the United Nations. The ground-breaking documentary brings viewers closer to the situation than a standard screen ever could, joining children as they live their daily lives at the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan. UNICEF and partners are working to minimise the impact of the Syrian conflict on children by helping restore a sense of normalcy to those who have experienced violence, lost loved ones, are out of school and have limited access to basic services due to being displaced. Now in its fifth year, the conflict in Syria has "robbed millions of children of their childhood, their country and their loved ones", Beighton said. You can experience Clouds Over Sidra at level 4 of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur from Oct 15 to 25. --BERNAMA
