Foreign Tourists Join Terengganu Turtle Conservation Volunteer Programme

DUNGUN (Terengganu, Malaysia), Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The turtle conservation programme at the Terengganu beach organised by the Fisheries Department has gained support from foreign tourists in recent years, said Rantau Abang Conservation and Information Centre (PKPPRA) manager Abd Halim Mat Noor. "We welcome their enthusiasm and help and last year about 10 tourists from Germany and France who visited the state took the opportunity to join the turtle conservation programme as volunteers," he told Bernama. He said last year nearly 1,000 foreign tourists visited the Rantau Abang sanctuary as they were attracted to the displays of marine life species, sea shells, replicas of marine life and marine information. Abd Halim said from the PKPPRA records more than 16,000 tourists, including 1,000 foreign tourists, visited the centre last year and the local visitors were mostly students from schools and higher learning institutions. -- BERNAMA
