Foreigners join Vietnamese to celebrate President Ho’s birthday

Hanoi, May 22 (VNA) - Thousands of foreign tourists visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum on May 19-20 on the 128th birthday anniversary of late President Ho Chi Minh (May 19). Many came to pay their tribute to the late President while others visited the landscape because they wanted to see how locals admire the late leader. Mancelline Serce, a French tourist, has been travelling in Vietnam for two months. He wanted to visit the mausoleum on the special day. “I know the story of Ho Chi Minh and I like this man,” Mancelline said. “It’s like a dream for me to see Ho Chi Minh in the building.” Tom, from the Netherlands, wanted to spend the first day in Hanoi to see the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and enjoy the respectful atmosphere in the landscape. “We are glad to be here on his birthday,” he said. “It’s beautiful to see so many young children, all people, actually people from every age come to pay respect old leader, Uncle Ho. We will have a good memory to take home in the Netherlands.” Coming from Denmark, Emil said “I see so many happy people who really care about Ho Chi Minh. I want to experience with Vietnamese people.” “It’s an honour to be allowed to see him and enjoy the birthday with local people,” she said. Meanwhile, Edith from the Netherlands said the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum a must-see place in Hanoi. “It’s incredible to see how many people come here to show respect to Ho Chi Minh. He was the great man… We definitely will visit him again.” “I will recommend people from the Netherlands and all over the world to visit the place,” she said. According to the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Management Board, more than 30,000 people visited the landscape on May 19-20, including nearly 3,000 foreigners. The figure exceeded 92,000 and nearly 11,000 from May 12-20. The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is an important landmark of Hanoi capital city. After his death on September 2, 1969, President Ho Chi Minh was preserved and laid to rest in this granite mausoleum. The mausoleum looks similar to V. Lenin's mausoleum in Moscow. It was built from 1973 to 1975. Construction materials, plants and bonsais were donated by people from all over the country.-VNA
