G20 summit discussions reveal overwhelming concern about climate change - sherpa

MOSCOW, July 2. /TASS/. Discussions at the Group of Twenty summit in Osaka have demonstrated that the participating countries are alarmed by climate change, Russian presidential representative to G20 (sherpa) Svetlana Lukash said at a briefing on Tuesday. "The way the discussion were held revealed that all the nations without any exception, including the United States, have concerns about the problem and are set to do their utmost in finding a solution to how adapt our economies to climate change," she said. Lukash pointed out that "the US’ particular stance on the issue was still accentuated in the final declaration of the Osaka summit, but it is strengthened considerably by the US internal national commitments against climate change." "At the final news conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin focused his attention on the problem and said that in the near future we will consider ratification of the Paris Agreement after undergoing all required procedures," she added. The emissary pointed out that Japan touched the issue of tackling ocean pollution for the first time at the summit. "This talk will be continued. We hope that a mechanism of international coordination will be set up so that the nations can interact in resolving the problem," the Russian presidential representative stressed. Read more
