Global press organization notes growing role of Russian media

ANKARA, October 25. /TASS/. President of the World Association of Russian Press (WARP) Vitaly Ignatenko has pointed to the growing organizational role of the Russian press in the world. "Over the 21 years of our association’s existence, there have been various technological, political, cultural and national challenges. Now we can say that the Russian press is developing steadily around the world. There were delegates from the US in the hall 21 years ago, when only one or two newspapers were there [nationwide]. Now, there is a newspaper and TV station in every American state. The blogosphere is developing intensively as well," he told TASS after the opening ceremony of the 21st World Congress of Russian Press. "In this room with us today is a wonderful person (Nikolai Krupatin - TASS) who organized a great radio [station] in the UK. The entire Russian diaspora rallied around him. Our newspapers, radio, television are becoming important factors in organizing the entire Russian diaspora. There are meetings, seminars, large-scale demonstrations similar to the Immortal Regiment march there. All that is done by Russian newspapers, radio stations and television. I believe the organizational role of the Russian press will be growing," Ignatenko said. The 21st World Congress of Russian Press, which opened in Ankara on Friday, will end in Alanya on October 27. The event was organized by the World Association of Russian Press (WARP) with support from Russia’s TASS news agency. Publishers and editors-in-chief representing about 400 Russian-language foreign media outlets from more than 50 countries are taking part in the convention. TASS First Deputy Director General Mikhail Gusman has arrived at the forum. Read more
