Holding Year of media cooperation in Russia, China becomes trend of our time - Russian ambassador

BEIJING, February 8. /TASS/. The current year will be a year of cooperation in media between Russia and China. More than 200 events have been planned in the two countries, including the exchange of delegations of journalists, meetings, forums and creation of the joint information products, Russia’s Ambassador to China Andrei Denisov told TASS on Monday. "Holding such a year is a trend of our times. Its aim is to make sure that our Chinese neighbors, the Chinese audiences judge about Russia, about developments here with the help of our Russian sources of information, first of all, of Russian journalists," he said. "And vice versa, we should too get information on China straight from the horse’s mouth. These are not only printed media, television and radio, these are also on-line resources." For example, we have recently been talking a lot about the contacts between bloggers who are quite active both in our country and here in China," the ambassador said. "If this component is included in the media exchange program, this will be a new, important and promising direction, considering the fact that we dealing with a vast audience in China - the number of China’s Internet users will soon approach 700 million. There is nothing like this anywhere else in the world," Denisov said. Humanitarian cooperation that has become more active in recent years is of particular importance to the Russian-Chinese relations. "This is performing arts, this is music, and, which we find especially enjoyable, this is cinema and cooperation in the field of television," the Russian diplomat said. "There have been more tours of Russian theater and music companies, Russia’s and the world’s greatest musicians come to China increasingly often. For example, Valery Gergiev, the artistic and general director of the Mariinsky Theater, is a frequent guest in China. He comes here both with orchestras and with the theater he is at the helm of," he said. Read more
