Iran sends humanitarian aid to Central African Republic

TEHRAN,March 17(MNA) – Iran sent a shipment of humanitarian aid to the displaced people of the Central African Republic, where sectarian conflicts have forced many Muslims flee their homeland. On Saturday, the Iranian Red Crescent Society sent the 40-ton aid consignment which contains tents, blankets, and foodstuff to the displaced people residing at camps in the African country of Chad. Sectarian conflicts between Muslims and Christians are intensifying as Muslims are killed, Qurans are destroyed, and mosques are set on fire. Tens of thousands of Muslims have fled to neighboring countries in recent months. According to the UN, more than 950,000 people have been displaced and thousands killed. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has pleaded for international help to stop sectarian violence that could turn into genocide.
