Iran spending rls 60,000b on refugees education

Mashhad, Khorassan Razavi Prov, Jan 20, IRNA – Interior Ministry official Abbas Nasrollahi on Tuesday announced that Iran is spending rls 60,000 billion on each refugee or immigrant living in the country to complete education. He made the remarks during the opening ceremony of a school for foreign refugees in this northeastern province. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and ambassadors of Japan and Australia were also present in the ceremony. The official noted that 330 thousand migrant or refugee students are currently studying at schools across the country. He also said that Iran has allocated 1,300 schools to refugee students. According to the official, the country needs yet another 13,000 classrooms to offer education to all refugee students. The educational service Iran is providing to refugee students is too expensive and extensive at the same time, the Interior Ministry official noted. Nassrollahi said the UNHCR provided an assistance of rls 100 billion to Iran this year – the highest ever – for building and equipping schools but the amount is too little compared with the figure Iran spending on refugee education every year. He urged all world states to help countries hosting refugees, stressing that Iran expects receiving more assistance from the UNHCR.
