KSrelief's Project Masam Dismantles over 329,000 Mines in Yemen since 2018

Riyadh, April 06, 2022, SPA – King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), as part of its efforts exerted across the world, has always been keen for its assistance to cover all vital sector in the humanitarian field to include the sectors of education, health, shelter, water and other important sectors. The center did not stop there and took the initiative to launch huge qualitative humanitarian projects that contributed to big positive results in the field of humanitarian work, such as Project Masan to clear the Yemeni lands from mines, which contributed to saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in Yemen through cleaning Yemeni regions from land various types, kinds and sizes of mines that were spread by the Houthi militia randomly in residential areas, roads, schools, and farms, which represented a clear violation for all divine religions and international laws. Project Masam teams, despite threats, managed to clear more than 329,000 mines in various Yemeni regions since the launch of the project in 2018 till the end of March, 2022 with the use of modern tools and help of 450 experts, divided into 32 teams, in the field of clearing mines. As a result of installing big amounts of mines by the Houthi militia, mainly in civil areas and what it caused of deaths and sever injuries and disabilities for thousands of children, women and the elderly, and due to the tangible results of Project Masam in preserving the lives of innocent Yemenis, KSrelief has extended the project for the fourth consecutive year, in a bid to combat the direct threats to the Yemenis' lives and enhance security across all the country. KSrelief's efforts were not limited to damaging Houthi mines, yet they also included extending treatment to the victims of mines, where the center also implements a qualitative project, which is the artificial limbs program that helps injured people and offers necessary services for free, including the installation of high-quality artificial limbs and offering the psychological and physical assistance, where the project benefited more than 25,000 people so far. On the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, KSrelief joins the international community, UN and international organizations in raising awareness against mines and calls for enhancing efforts in combating mines and saving lives, as well as building the capabilities in people working in the field in the affected countries and helping the affected people. --SPA
