Kyrgyz peacekeeping contingent returns from Kazakhstan

Bishkek, Jan. 14, 2022. / Kabar /. The Kyrgyz peacekeeping contingent, which was carrying out a peacekeeping mission in neighboring Kazakhstan under the CSTO agreement to resolve the situation, has arrived in Kyrgyzstan. As part of the agreement, Kyrgyzstan sent 150 soldiers from the Scorpion special forces, 8 armored vehicles and 11 vehicles to fraternal Kazakhstan. Today, January 14, Kyrgyz servicemen arrived home on military equipment through the Ak-zhol post on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border. Together with the journalists, the head of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic Kamchybek Tashiev met the militarymen. He recalled that in connection with the well-known events in neighboring Kazakhstan, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov instructed to send Kyrgyz troops as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. “On January 7, our troops arrived in Kazakhstan and started a peacekeeping mission. There they took under protection the Almaty thermal power plant-2, which provides 70 percent of electricity to the southern capital of Kazakhstan. During the service, no incidents were recorded, all personnel and all equipment arrived back safe and sound,” the head of the State Committee for National Security told reporters. Mass riots and protests have taken place in neighboring Kazakhstan in early January. The events were accompanied by armed clashes with the power structures of Kazakhstan. In addition, according to the Kazakh authorities, there were attacks by terrorists and extremist organizations that, taking advantage of the unrest, pursued their criminal goals. In order to quickly resolve the situation and counter terrorist organizations, the authorities of Kazakhstan requested support from the allied states through the CSTO.
