Kyrgyzstan holds talks with Tajikistan on electricity supplies

Bishkek, Oct. 6, 2021 . / Kabar / . Kyrgyzstan is negotiating with Tajikistan on the supply of electricity, head of the Department of Electricity Management of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the republic Aibek Aidaraliyev told Kabar News Agency. He added that a Kyrgyz delegation is currently in Dushanbe. "Everything will be clear only after the arrival of the delegation. Whether an agreement on supplies will be drawn up or not, in what amount and cost - everything will be clear only after the return of the negotiators. We have no information before that," Aidaraliyev said. Kyrgyzstan began importing electricity from neighboring Tajikistan amid low water levels in its Toktogul Reservoir. Currently, the republic receives electricity from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan through an exchange, and imports it from Turkmenistan. Kyrgyzstan consumes about 15 billion kWh of electricity annually.
