Kyrgyzstan, Iran to cooperate in fight against crime

Interior Minister of Kyrgyzstan Ulan Niyazbekov and Iranian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Saeed Kharazi agreed to cooperate in the fight against crime, the press service of the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry said Wednesday. The meeting of the officials was held on Tuesday. "For the Ministry of Internal Affairs an important task in the field of law enforcement is to build effective international cooperation in the fight against crime. In light of the events in Afghanistan, not only the threat of terrorism and extremism becomes relevant, but also the risk of the spread of narcotic drugs increases. In this regard, I request your assistance in establishing direct contact with the unit or liaison officer responsible for combating illicit drug trafficking. That will allow to promptly solve the issues in this direction,” Niyazbekov stressed. In turn, Saeed Kharazi noted the readiness of the Iranian side for fruitful cooperation in the fight against crime and security. Besides, the Iranian ambassador voiced interest in sharing the Kyrgyz side's experience in combating drug trafficking. At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed the hope that constructive approaches of the parties to address all issues of bilateral cooperation will allow finding mutually acceptable solutions in all key areas on the basis of friendship and mutual understanding.
