Kyrgyzstan sees 30% drop in grain harvest

As predicted, a decline in the harvest of crops by 30% is observed in Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development of the republic Azamat Mukashev told during a press conference at Kabar News Agency Friday. He added that 448,4 thousand hectares of grain crops were harvested in the republic, or 94.7% of the total area. "According to the statistics, 370-380 thousand tons of crops have been harvested as of today. At the moment, work on harvesting continues in Susamyr region, Naryn Oblast and Ton region. In addition, 94 thousand tons of leguminous crops have been harvested," the deputy minister said. Mukashev pointed out that along with the harvesting of grain crops, economic entities of the republic are harvesting potatoes, vegetables and melons. "A total of 585 thousand tones of potatoes, 769 thousand tones of vegetables, 217 thousand tones of melons, 8.5 thousand tones of oil crops and 1.52 thousand tones of tobacco were harvested across the republic,” the official noted. In conclusion, Mukashev explained that these figures are related to weather conditions. "The year was dry, the rainfall was much lower than the annual average and the amount of water for irrigation was less," he concluded.
