Kyrgyzstan will host population census in 2020

Bishkek, July 11, 2018. / Kabar /. A population census will be held in Kyrgyzstan in 2020, First Deputy Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov told at a meeting of the Republican Commission for the Population and Housing Census of 2020.

He said that according to the UN proposal, a census of population and housing is carried out every 10 years.

"During the 1999 census in Kyrgyzstan, there were 4.8 million people, in 2009 - 5.3 million people," he said.

This time, according to Boronov's information, the decision on the population census was taken at the CIS summit in 2016 and also by the government's decision in 2017.

The First Deputy Prime Minister noted that preparations for a mass census should begin today.

"We need to prepare qualitatively. The quality of the population census will depend on how much we are ready, "he said and noted the role of local authorities as one of the most important.

Kubatbek Boronov instructed the Ministry of Finance to determine the sources of financing. In addition, he stressed that it is necessary to find international organizations that will help in financing a large-scale project.
