Malaysians Remain Indifferent To Hand Hygiene

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Generally, Malaysians are not hands-on, in as far as the hygene of the hand is concerned. For the average Malaysian, as long as the hands appear clean, that should suffice. Or so, they think. "A lot of people think a little soap and water are good enough to clean the hands...it's not really that. "You need to use an antiseptic because only that kills germs," said Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (local private hospital) quality assurance adviser Dr M. Narayanan. He was speaking to reporters after launching the International Hand Hygiene Day 2015 here Tuesday. A testament to this indifference is the fact that only a few use hand sanitisers or hand rubs placed in hospitals. Narayanan believes hand hygiene should be an integral part of personal hygiene because a contaminated hand can affect one's health. --BERNAMA
