Malaysia's UTP Achieves World Class Rating From Rating Agency Quacquarelli Symonds

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP or Petronas University of Technology) has emerged as the first private university in the country to receive four QS Stars rating by the world varsities rating agency, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). UTP Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Rahim Hashim said UTP had improved in its overall performance from last year, moving up from three stars to four star-rating which indicated "highly international" and demonstrating excellence in both research and teaching. He said the result included top scores of a five-star rating in five areas out of eight, namely graduates high employability rate, international feel of the community and the campus, high standard of student facilities, innovation and accessibility of the university to students. "The QS Stars rating system is widely recognised across the world and this award will help further develop the university's growing international reputation. "With this recognition, the university can benchmark itself with the best international universities while also placing it in good stead when compared with other international institutions," he said in the statement here Sunday. The QS Star Rating System is utilised by more than 130 universities in 30 countries. The rating system is an indepth analysis of a university's system to award from one to a maximum of five stars. It gives an overall institutional rating as well as ratings in eight key domain areas namely teaching, employability, research, internationalisation, facilities, innovation, access and specialist subjects. Meanwhile, Abdul Rahim said UTP had also earned a place in the QS World University Top 200 Ranking by Subject for Chemical Engineering and was the only private university in Malaysia to break into the QS Asian University Top 200 Ranking. --BERNAMA
