Naryshkin suggests Russian Historical Society members visit Hiroshima during G7 summit

MOSCOW, August 5. /TASS/. Russian State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin, who leads the Russian Historical Society, has suggested sending a delegation to Hiroshima during the G7 summit, due next year. Speaking at a round-table discussion at the Moscow state institute of international relations, timed for the 70th anniversary of the atom bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Naryshkin recalled an earlier remark by the head of MGIMO’s diplomacy department, Aleksandr Panov, to the effect the G7 leaders had been invited to pay a visit to Hiroshima during their summit due next year, but refused. "Possibly we, members of the Russian Historical Society, should pay a visit to Hiroshima during the so-called G7 summit," Naryshkin asked. The 2016 G7 summit of Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the United States, France and Japan will be held at the Ise Shima National Park, Mie Prefecture. On the eve of the summit the G7 foreign ministers will meet in Hiroshima. Read more
