Pamela Anderson to attend Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok

MOSCOW, August 12. /TASS/. Well-known Hollywood actress and animal rights activist Pamela Anderson will come to the Eastern Economic Forum to be held in Vladivostok between September 3 and September 5. She announced the decision on the website of the Pamela Anderson Foundation. "I am looking forward with both excitement and hope to the visit and meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergey Donskoy at the East Russia Economic Forum in Vladivostok," she wrote. According to Anderson, Russia must continue to protect the biological diversity "on both land and in the sea". "If we are to restore biodiversity in the Ocean, we need to replenish the ocean of whales, dolphins, fish and the thousands of diverse and important species that make up the foundation of our oceanic life support systems," Anderson said. "I am also impressed that Russia has taken the position that saving bees is a priority," she added. Earlier this month, Donskoy told the Izvestia daily that he had invited Anderson to the forum in Vladivostok, in particular, to discuss the Polar Bear hunting in Canada. In July, the actress sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to block the passage of the Winter Bay cargo vessel through the Northeast Passage. The vessel was reportedly carrying more than 1,700 tons of fin whale meat from Iceland to Japan. Later Anderson asked for a meeting with Putin to discuss environmental issues with him. Anderson has Russian roots on her mother’s side. Her great grandmother was Russian, she emigrated from Russia to the Netherlands and from there to Canada. The first Eastern Economic Forum will be held on Russky Island off Vladivostok from September 3 to September 5. According to the organizing committee, more than 400 Russian companies, including Gazprom and Rosneft, have filed applications for participation in the forum. Read more
