Petroleum product reservoirs project launched in Jordan

ABU DHABI, 20th August, 2015 (WAM) - The Jordanian Government yesterday commenced construction work of building petroleum product reservoirs in the southern Amman area. The launch celebration was attended by the Jordanian Prime Minister, Dr Abdullah Al Nusoor and Bilal Al Badoor, UAE Ambassador to Jordan. The project aims to provide additional storage capacity for petroleum products (diesel, gasoline, and kerosene) with a total storage capacity 3,40,000 tons in addition to 10,000 tons storage capacity for liquid pressurised gas (LPG). The total project cost is Dh771 million and is financed as part of the UAE allocation within the grants provided by the Gulf Cooperation Council. The UAE grant of Dh4.6 billion (US$1.25 billion), is equivalent to 25 percent of the total US$5 billion GCC grant. The UAE Government has mandated Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) to manage the grant that will be used for vital projects contributing to economic and social development efforts in Jordan. Upon completion in the fourth quarter of 2016, the project will guarantee Jordan a strategic supply of petroleum products and remarkably increase its storage capacity. It will help Jordan maintain a continuous supply of petroleum products to prevent any crises situations and emergencies. Construction of reservoirs will also mitigate the effects of fluctuations in petroleum product prices. The project will enhance storage capacity of petroleum products in Jordan to cover 60 days of consumption needs. Emad Fakhouri, Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation thanked the UAE for its continuous support and constructive contributions to development efforts in Jordan. He appreciated the role of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development in driving sustainable development in the country since 1974 by financing vital projects that positively impact Jordanian people. Bilal Al Badoor, UAE Ambassador to Jordan, stressed the importance of relations between the two countries noting that the UAE leadership is committed to providing ongoing developmental support to Jordan. He added that this project has a large economic impact and will help Jordan tackle the challenges it faces in maintaining petroleum supplies. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395284508534.html
