Project to name outstanding personalities in humanitarian cooperation launched in Beijing

BEIJING, June 5. /TASS/. A ceremony for launching a joint project between Russian news agency TASS and China’s Guangming Daily, "10 outstanding Russian and Chinese personalities in humanitarian cooperation," was held in Beijing on Tuesday. The opening ceremony was attended by TASS Editor-in-Chief Maxim Filimonov, Guangming Daily Editor-in-Chief Zhang Zhen, Russia’s Ambassador to China Andrei Denisov as well as high-ranking Chinese government representatives, public figures, staff members of leading Chinese universities and journalists. "Russian and Chinese mass media …should enhance cultural exchange between the two countries and friendly relations between the peoples," Guangming Daily Editor-in-Chief Zhang Zhen said. "The joint project’s implementation will contribute to greater development of cultural dialogue between the nations and deepening Russian-Chinese cooperation," he stressed. "China and Russia have a huge potential for cooperation - Russian readers of mass media have a pretty decent knowledge of Chinese politics and news about China is on the front pages of Russian newspapers and magazines," Filimonov said. Russian movies rake in huge sums at box offices in China, and Russian music is popular in the country, while Chinese names of musicians and conductors are often seen among performers at the best concert halls in Russia, he noted. "The project of TASS and Guangming Daily should contribute to enable the people of Russia and China to have a better and deeper knowledge about each other," Filimonov said. The project "10 outstanding Russian and Chinese personalities in humanitarian cooperation" is carried out under the program of the Years of Russian-Chinese interregional cooperation in 2018-2019. This is the second joint initiative of TASS and Guangming Daily. In 2016 "10 masterpieces of Chinese literature in Russia and 10 masterpieces of Russian literature in China" were chosen. The winners of the current project will be announced in late 2018 in Moscow. Read more
