Putin signs law that simplifies achievement of Russian citizenship by foreign specialists

MOSCOW, July 3. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law on the reduction of the duration of employment from three years to one year for foreign experts in the Russian Federation that is needed for receiving Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure. The corresponding law that was adopted by the State Duma on June 25 and approved by the Federation Council on June 26, was published on the official web portal of legal information on Wednesday. The issue concerns foreigners who occupy positions or work in the professions included in the list made by the government. Foreigners and people without citizenship (qualified specialists) may currently submit an application for receiving Russian citizenship without observing the terms of residence if they have worked in Russia in the profession included in this list for at least three years. The law, which decreased this term to one year, will come into force 90 days after the official publication. The document was prepared to execute the Russian president’s orders after Vladimir Putin’s annual Q&A session as of June 7, 2018, and is directed, on the one hand, at solving tasks in the sphere of Russia’s socio-economic development and on the other hand at galvanizing the provision of Russian citizenship to a considerable number of Russian-speaking qualified experts from the states of the former Soviet Union.
