Santhiran, A Good And Caring Son, Says Father

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Nothing else can be sadder and shocking than to be told on the demise of a good and caring son. It was an experience no parents would want to go through, said G.Munisamy, 77, who was overwhelmed with emotion in recalling his last conversation with his son, M. Santhiran, the Bernama correspondent in India who died in New Delhi early Sunday. Santhiran, 48, died at 11.40 pm local time (2.10 am Malaysian time) due to several complications at Primus Chanakyapuri Hospital in New Delhi after being admitted there last Friday for diarrhoea. "I did ask about his condition due to the diarrhoea and he said his condition was improving, but I felt uneasy and knew he was not telling the truth. "He even refused to talk to his mother for fear that she would worry about his health," said Munisamy when met at Santhiran's residence in Puchong near here Sunday. Munisamy said he had the telephone conversation with Santhiran last Thursday, a day before his son was admitted to the hospital. Munisamy and wife, M. Jeyammal, 75, as well as a few of Santhiran's siblings, arrived at the house from Muar, a town and district in Malaysia's southern state of Johor, about 2 pm Sunday after being informed the sad news. Meanwhile, Santhiran's youngest son, S. Nahvin, 16, recalled the fond memories with his father, especially when they watched the football games on television. "Whenever we watched the football match between Manchester United (MU) and Liverpool, my father would always criticise the Liverpool players and manager, he said of his father, a staunch MU fan. Nahvin said his father also liked to joke, but was firm when it came to education. "He loved to make sarcastic jokes with us, but when it comes to education, he was very concerned and would always call and gave encouragement every time I had test or examination," he added. Santhiran's remains would be brought back and expected to be laid to rest in Puchong, a major town in the Petaling district in Selangor state. He is survived by wife Malarvili d/o Dorasamy, 47, and two sons, S. Rutran, 18, and Nahvin. Santhiran joined Bernama in October 2002 and was attached with the agency's Court Desk for 10 years before appointed as the agency's correspondent in India, effective Feb 1, 2015 -- BERNAMA
