Six Children Die In Mud Mound Collapse In Western Nepal

By Yuba Nath Lamsal KATHMANDU, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- Six children died after they were buried under a mud mound that collapsed in Dodadhara of Kailali, about 650km west of here Friday, according to the police. The children had gone to the mound to fetch red clay for decorating their house walls and floors in the run-up to the Dashain festival, police said. “One child died on the spot while the five others succumbed to injuries during treatment in hospital,” police inspector Mahesh Chaudhari of Kailali police station said in a telephone interview. The children were all less than 10 years of age. Eighteen other children had also been buried under the collapsed mound but they were rescued alive by police and the local people, Chaudhari said. The injured children are undergoing treatment in Tikapur hospital, he said. The Dashain festival is the greatest festival of Nepalese Hindus that begins on Oct 11 this year and will last for 15 days. -- BERNAMA
